The difference may be that you are using IPv6 and I am using IPv4. Can you disable IPv6 and try again?

I am not sure if YouTube has IPv6 addresses, so there could be some network translation taking place, which is slowing things down on the upload path?

Disabled IPV6 on my windows PC. Doesn't seem to have made a difference. Thank you for your help btw @Keith_Beddoe

It was just a thought. Nothing else you can do, apart from try a different router, to eliminate the HH as being the issue.

You really need to ask other people who are using a different router.

@Keith_Beddoe Thanks for your help anyway :). That's quite an interesting article. I saw on that post they are using a Vigor 130 + Asus RT-AC67U router. Do you know why they would use a Vigor 130 ADSL/VDSL2 Modem? Like do you need the modem to be able to use the broadband with a third party router. I also did a BufferBloat test and got a rating of C which is really bad. I was looking at this router which apparently has a good rating for BufferBloat ASUS RT-AC86U Dual-Band AC2900 Wireless Gigabit Router

I cannot really offer any more advice, as I have no experience with ASUS network stuff, only TP Link routers and Netgear managed switches.

You would need a  VDSL modem/router suitable for gaming. That would have a fast internal processor to shift the data out to the network, without buffering.

You may be able to get some recommendations on this forum.

Most 3rd party routers do not have a built in DSL modem, hence using a Vigor 130.

I had nothing but issues with the Vigor 130 when I had one, and ended up going back to the Huawei HG612.

The higher end Asus et al routers tend to have some form of QoS, which may help with your traffic management - although if you are the only one on the network and it is still doing it then it is unlikely to be network congestion on your local network.

I'd see if you could temporarily borrow a hub as I don't think a new router will necessarily resolve your issue.

I am having the exact same issues here (as a lot of other people from other threads as I can see). Ping spikes up as soon as I use YouTube, Nextflix, Twitch, or even Facebook (while scrolling throught and videos start auto-playing). My internet has been smooth for 2 and so years, and only started noticing this couple months ago - but is now getting worse. 

As an example: a ping test when I am scrolling down Facebook:

The sympton is the same if I open an YouTube video or play on Twitch. As soon as I pause a stream, the ping goes back to normal.

If I keep the ping test on while playing a video game, there's no spikes whatsoever, which confirms it's not a bandwidth issue but rather a routing/traffic-prioritization issue. 

Did anyone actually manage to resolve this? I see that last suggestions were to buy a 3rd party router with QoS, but did anyone actually buy one and can confirm they solved the issue?

I have been reading about Bufferbloat issues and it does seem to be the cause: http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest/47121856
