My bt hub 6a won't work with long ethernet cables

I originally tried using a cat7 30meter length.

I have since tried a brand new 20 meter cat5a.

Neither work.

But the ports are working with shorter 5m / 10m cables.

Any idea why this is?

I think you have just got unlucky,  cat5e will run internet for up to 96meters. Are these homemade or bought patchleads? I can think of no logical reason why a router port would only work over a short distance.

The 30meter length, I have had knocking around for a while, and it is possible that my builder damaged the connections threading it through the wall..

The 20 meter one was brand new, although I did manage to put a kink in it when I was unraveling it, I did not think that this would be enough to damage it though....

Maybe 3rd time lucky!!!!
