Need more ethernet ports on whole home disc?

Go to solution

BT Whole Home wotsit arrived and working fine but I used to plug in my Hive and Vodafone sure signal into the back of my Home Hub (has lots of ports!) The new discs have only one port so not sure what I need to buy to be able to carry on as before? Forgive this basic question - any recommendations would be gratefully received ta!

Why can't you leave them plugged into the HomeHub?

I tried that but it didn't seem to work with my Sure Signal. So I plugged it into the back of one of the other discs and that worked fine. Thing is I need more ports as I have cables for my TV and Hive system.

Just get a cheap Ethernet switch to provide as many ports as you need, the whole home isn't a replacement for your hub it is just intended to be a wifi system.

I did wonder about a switch - but where would I plug it in?  In the back of one of the discs or the home hub? Apologies for the dumb questions

Adding a Whole Home WiFi shouldn't change the way your existing devices, currently plugged into your HH, should work.  If they were working before they should be working now unless something else has changed.

Plug it into your HH because the disk next to the HH won't have a free port.

I'm assuming you've had to unplug a device from your HH because you now need a port for the first disk.

Thank you! I suspected as much it just took me a while to figure out that I can't do this with disc1. Just for extra 'stupid' protection can I still plug stuff into the back of the home hub ?

Thanks everyone - please feel free to go scream into a pillow Smiley LOL
