Nest WiFi

Hello guys,

Completely new here, I’m looking at switching to bt fibre 100, but would like to know what is the best modem to work alongside google best WiFi.

Does the router supplied allow modem only mode?

Can you recommend anything?

Does it matter what modem?

What are your experiences?

Re: Nest WiFi

Hi @Jordanthfc7

Welcome to the Community!

Do you know if this is FTTP or G.fast?

The router supplied does not have modem mode, on all packages.

If FTTP, you can buy any WAN Router like Google Wi-Fi, as the ONT acts as a modem.

With G.fast, modem options to replace the supplied router are very limited, and you would basically have to use the router and if you wanted to use something like Google Wi-fi you would have to put it in Access Point / Bridge mode.

Thanks

Re: Nest WiFi

Thanks for the reply!

At the moment I’m looking at the G-Fast.

I am not clued up on this sort of stuff at all, but would really like to use the Google WiFi, as I have many ‘smart’ devices in my home all linked up to google (+ I like the look of it!)

If I went for the G-Fast, what would I need to do/buy (if possible) to get it working how it should?

Would putting it in access point/bridge mode have any affects on the speed or anything?

Thanks for your patience and help😂

Re: Nest WiFi

@Jordanthfc7

No problem.

In that case, you are essentially forced to use the Smart Hub as modems are £200+, it would seem.

It might have changed and hopefully, someone can recommend a G.fast modem.

So you would have to use bridge mode or Double-NAT your Google Wi-Fi.

Re: Nest WiFi

Have you actually checked to see what is available to you?

as you don't have BT phone number then enter your address which is not as accurate but best you can do at present.   https://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/adslchecker.welcome
