New Smart Hub vs Old?

I've just taken over an account and received a new SmartHub. The existing one is about a year and a half old.

It is working perfectly. Will they be exactly the same or is it worth unboxing the new one?

I assume you mean that you have a new account, as you cannot normally take over an existing account?

If the existing home hub is working fine, then just keep the new one as a spare.

The same goes for any other equipment you receive as part of your new contract.

Thanks. It’s working fine but might a new one have better range for example if it is newer hardware or firmware?

Wireless power output is the same for all UK wireless routers, its an Ofcom regulation, so there is unlikely to be any difference.

Also the latest smart hub 2 has a number of issues which can cause incompatibility with some devices, and also needs a smartphone to manage many of the settings.

I would be inclined to leave things alone if its all working, unless you really have a lot of spare time to play around with it.

As a matter of interest if all routers have the same power output then how come do some have better range than others in both consumer tests and manufacturers claims?

Its down to the aerial configuration, and the way that software  within the devices, can control the wireless radiation pattern, to direct it towards the areas within the house, where most wireless devices are located. This is an ongoing issue, as wireless channels become more congested.

Some router manufacturers refer to this as "beam forming"

Thanks - so these aspects are not improved at all in newer SmartHubs? Are they in fact changed at all in hardware or software do you know?
