Next door neighbours are hacking my devices on my network

Without judging me can u please explain how they have done this because everyone time I have reported them to the police I have been mistreated and no one takes me seriously. This is really happening

Two indian brothers who live next door have been harassing me for years since 2022 it was in 2026 I found out they have hacked my tv and devices because they were making comments outloud about sites I have visited and what is being shown on my TV screen.

There were 2 entry points in our home  1 was the wifi extender and  2 Tapo tp link security cameras plugged into common wall

I know for a fact they got onto our network and have exploited security vulnerabilites on my devices that allows them to see the screens in real time

of 2  2013 Smart TVs

a iphone and macbook air both using outdated software.

After I found out they were hacking I removed the wifi extender, reset the HUb and changed the hub passwords.

Whatever he has used is a spyware or malware because he's made a persistent connection and the only way to kick him off is a total factory reset of everything.

Even after resettting the hub he attacked a new device a chromebook. He could see the screen of my chromebook.

I just want to ask how is he doing this and how to stop him.

Is he using a pivoting technique by using the security cameras to attack my devices?

Re: Next door neighbours are hacking my devices on my network

Nobody on the forum can tell you how or if anybody has hacked into your home network and or devices.

Anything suggested would just be speculation because all your devices would need to be checked and scanned to see if they have been compromised.

You would be better to get a local reputable computer/network technician to check to see what if anything has been compromised and carry out a fix.

Why can't BT/EE offer me support? He's hacked my devices through the network not by physical access.

No. Apart from the fact that this is a BT residential customer to customer forum. Your post does not go to BT. The only BT staff are the forum moderators who do not necessarily read all the posts.

The security of your network and any equipment using it is your responsibility not BT's.

BT offer antiviruse/malware programs with most package but it is your choice to use them.

There is some information in the following links.

I do not and have never worked for BT I am a customer just like you so I don't need to help anybody. If you want me to come to your house and check all your equipment and the security of your home network I will be happy to discuss my fee but it won't be cheap.

I will however advise that you update all the outdated software and hardware that you are using.

As I previously said, there is no way anybody can tell you if and how your system is being hacked without physically checking it.

Any advice you are given on this forum is just that "Advice" and speculation however I will now no longer post on your thread and leave you to see what other forum members do for you to tell you if and how the hackers have got into your network.

Re: Next door neighbours are hacking my devices on my network

As has been said, to diagnose your problem is virtually impossible without being on site.

Are you using a BT router and has it ever been anywhere the neighbours could see it?  In a window, perhaps.  Remember, it only takes a minute to photo something these days and BT routers have the password on the back.  If it’s a third-party router, is remote access disabled?

When you say you have reset the passwords, how secure were the new passwords?  You are really looking at 20+ random characters today, including upper & lowercase, numbers and symbols.

Are any of those old devices using WEP?  (The world record for cracking WEP was 6 seconds years back, so it’s probably almost instant today).  The absolute minimum you want is WPA2.

Can the security camera see anything sensitive?

If the security camera is connected to the cloud, you need to make sure that account password is secured, as well.  Do you have it setup for access from outside?  Again, that needs to be really secure or better still, removed altogether.

(Edit:  In fact, thought occurs, if that security camera is in the livingroom and can see the TV, that may be what is going on!)

You also need to scan each of your devices with an up-to-date anti-virus package.

Again, as has been said, obsolete devices are a liability.

Re: Next door neighbours are hacking my devices on my network

"Yes, a  compromised TP-Link Tapo Security camera can theoretically be used as a pivot point or foothold to target other devices on the same local network."

The only way he can attack my out of date devices is by  being on my network and this is how he attacked my devices and remained hidden and his first initial entry point might have possibly been the wifi extender.

Re: Next door neighbours are hacking my devices on my network

do you use powerline adapters in your home and if so is an adapter plugged into an adjoining wall?  There have been posts were this setup have allowed neighbours to access your internet

Re: Next door neighbours are hacking my devices on my network

Yes, good point.

It should be possible to change the default encryption on those as well.
