I have a new BT Smart Hub (Sep 2018) and I want to attach a hard drive to the USB port, and then use it as a backup drive for my iMac and Macbook.
I have plugged it in, but I can't see it in the Finder.
Does anyone know how to do this?

No idea on a MAC, but on a PC you just map a drive to 192.168.1.254, presumbly something similar on the MAC.
Thanks. Unfortunately ou don't map drives on Macs like on PCs.

See this answer from 'Foosh' on previous thread about this, worked for me:
I have figured this out last night so here is the solution 🙂
Click Go - Connect To Server
Choose "Guest" profile
Then choose the drive as displayed
It will then show on the left in the Finder window as a network drive as 192.168.1.254 and you can use it as needed
I've done this and I can see the drive in finder. I can copy files from the drive but cannot copy files to the drive. I can't use it as a backup drive because you can't copy any files to it.
It says 'you can't write files because you don't have permission to read them'
despite the fact the files i'm copying from are on my hard drive and I have permission to read and write them. It's weird and I can only assume it's BT not letting you use a cheap network drive.
If I'd have known this I would have bought a network drive that connects to ethernet. Good old BT!
Surely the USB slot is read and write and not just read only. Any help is much appreciated
I haven't done this and don't use a Hub but you may need file sharing turned on in System Prefs.
