We have put together a short survey to capture your feedback in terms of what BT can do when you experience home Wi-Fi issues. We would appreciate it if you could take a couple of minutes to complete a short survey. Read more from here, Fix my home Wi-Fi
No my own router doesn't make a difference to the issue, however I think your issue is different to the other "gaming latency" threads.
We can actually pinpoint latency issues on specific BT nodes (or so we think)
Traceroutes are easy to understand. Hop 1 is your router hops 2-6 are usually the bt network and every hop past 6 are the destination your packets are being sent to i.e gaming servers. If High pings are showing in hops 1-6 the problem is with the router or BT network and if high lag spikes are showing past hop 6 the problem is outside of BT's Network.
Your traceroute is showingthe high pings start withing BT'S network. Best contact them and show them the traceroute
I personally think its my smarthub or the 3rd Party BT is using to route my traffic. My connection stats are fine but im experiencing high latency. Totally frustrated
We'd need to see traceroutes and maybe a PingLogger screenshot to try and add another case to the list. Will also help ruling out some stuff such as bad BT nodes or w/e.
The issue isn't really visible 24/7 for most people as it's Latency Variation and not constant high ping. Example being:
19ms > 19ms >19ms > 140ms >100ms > 60ms > 19ms >19ms etc etc
Can you check if Netflix will load for you, right at this moment, on a Laptop or something?
I don't watch netflix. I do notice however when searching the web sometimes websites will take a while to load, not all time but occasionally. My traceroutes to game servers are fine within BT's network but start reaching 100ms pings when it reaches the game servers. I contacted ea (i play madden)and provided them with the tracerouteand they said it looked like a routing problem. Ive contacted various other developers and playstation and i get told to contact my isp but bt says my connection is fine
This was a traceroute i did a while ago when i contacted ea about the lag issue. I was with Virgin at the time but the results are the exact same with BT
