I have both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks enabled but on a random basis only one will show on my devices Wireless connections list.
Any ideas why?
It could be that the 5GHz signal is out of range, it depend on which one goes missing.
The other possibility is that there is an intermittent fault on one of the wireless radio units in the home hub.
Some dual band wireless devices, may also give preference to one band.

Unfortunately which one goes missing is random - sometimes the 5Ghz, sometimes the 2.4 and it doesn't seem to matter where I am in relation to the hub.

Sorry to hear you are having problems with your hub. I have a feeling that @Keith_Beddoe may be right and that wireless unit may have gone faulty. If you are in contract with us you should call 0800 800 151 and we should be able to replace this free of charge.
