Re: Ping Jitter from 20ms to 250ms every 5 seconds on Fibre Broadband.

You'll see plenty of posts about this issue on these forums, unfortunately there is no KNOWN fix for this right now. I also have a BT Wholesale Engineer coming out tomorrow to look at my problem (the 10th Engineer)

The issue lies within BT's network, there's nothing Openreach can do about it.

If you boot up PingPlotter you'll be able to see the nodes where the ping spikes start happening.

I'm gonna guess it starts on node 3 or 4, and im gonna guess those nodes will be 31.55.186.176 and 31.55.186.177.

These two nodes are suspect in everyone traceroute results.

Re: Ping Jitter from 20ms to 250ms every 5 seconds on Fibre Broadband.

Thank you.  I'll give that a go.

Interestingly, for me, turning down the Netflix stream settings to low has helped magnificently.  Shouldn't need to do it though.

Re: Ping Jitter from 20ms to 250ms every 5 seconds on Fibre Broadband.

Do you ever get issues loading Netflix on a PC?

I noticed on a number of occasions that my Netflix wouldnt load on any browser on PC, so I did a ping at the same time (with a Twitch 1080p 60fps around 1MB/s bandwidth) stream running too and my ping was perfectly fine. I'm on a 32Mbit connection so more than enough bandwidth to handle 2 streams and a game or two.

Re: Ping Jitter from 20ms to 250ms every 5 seconds on Fibre Broadband.

I ran pingplotter for 10 minutes.  The first two spikes were when Netflix was running at low quality.  I changed the settings to auto at 21:47 and you can see what a difference it made.   75% of packets lost on hop 3.  Is that you were referring to?

Any update from your engineer today?

Na Engineer didn't even come to the house, doubt he / she even went o the exchange.

No resolution today, called them and they're escalating the issue to their "Offline team" to see what they can do.

The nodes at 31.55.185.XXX are the problem here I think. Over all the Pings / Treaceroutes I've seen they all have those nodes in common.

Re: Ping Jitter from 20ms to 250ms every 5 seconds on Fibre Broadband.

This problem started in december for me and an engineer came round and said theres nothing wrong with my connection 😂 and so did BT. Was able to do everything but game online.

Anyway i was lucky i moved house and isp in march and that fixed my problem.

@itani which provider did you move to ? I'm having ping spikes even when the network is idle 😂😂. And they seem to happen every day at the same time during the day.

I just did a speed test and it was 1 down/ 3 up and a ping of 388.
