Problem with incoming copper connection

Hi,

I have a problem with my incoming download speed. I was previously with EE and the download speed was around 20mbs but dropped to 3.5mbs so we phoned and they sent an engineer to check our home connection. They found nothing wrong in our home so they said the download speed has been capped at 3.5mbs and they'd send an openreach engineer because of a fault on the copper cable. Before the engineer come we changed provider to sky and they benchmarked our download speed on the faulted cable so they are saying we are getting the speed minimum that they can provide and their system can't see any problem with the download speed. We are stuck with a faulty capped download speed while all our neighbors are getting around 20mbs. What do i do? I have explained the situation to sky with no luck of getting the cable fixed and now changed to BT and it looks like I'm at a dead end.

Are you now a BT Broadband customer?

Re: Problem with incoming copper connection

Yes I have just switched to BT from SKY. Sky couldn't help me with the incoming connection.

Re: Problem with incoming copper connection

When you switched to BT you should have been given your minimum speed promise along with what your expected speeds are expected to be.  If BT are hitting that then there will not be a lot you can do, if not then speak to the fault team and they will sort it out.

I might try and speak with the fault team then because I'll be getting the 3n6mbs speed that I'm guaranteed because the maximum download speed was decided with the fault already on the line.

Re: Problem with incoming copper connection

Do you know what the engineer checked?

Couple of things:  1) FTTC will work, (but badly), on one wire.  If your speeds are through the floor, it could be a bad connection on one of the wires.  2) The most likely culprit for problems is the filtered faceplate.  Plugging straight into the test socket behind it should eliminate any problems if that’s the case.

Re: Problem with incoming copper connection

She checked the connection in the socket and said nothing wrong with the connection at my 'home' end.
