Re: BT Home Hub 5 "New Firmware Upgrade" causing problems

@Dippu yeah I know but my point is the average Joe won't know that so wouldn't look for it,even then the factory reset doesn't even work so its a mute point.

If the factory reset doesn't work then does that not signify the router is broken?

Every router I have seen has a recessed reset button to restore factory settings.  Even the rather limited user guide for the Hubs clearly shows the reset button at the back.  Labelled reset on hub 5 and factory reset on hub 6.  It usually pays to RTFM.

Correct the average Joe may not know, and probably doesn't care, of the existence of the reset button. Until he / she has a problem, contacts BT and/or this forum, and are instructed of it's existence and purpose.

I do wish that BT would expand somewhat on 'use paper clip to press Reset Button'

IMO it would be better to say 'press and hold Reset Button for X secs'

Having had about 5/6 Hubs I know the X secs hold down varies.

One of the HH5s needed 20 secs to work correctly.

Yes I do!

But, the manual that comes does not say that, I was quoting.

I also note the number of times that posters here say "do a reset"

If a user then goes to the manual..............

My post was very polite, aka, stating the bleeding obvious.

Not saying "RTFM" - see above.

On looking again at the Hub 5 user guide I see page 9 says:-

"Press the Restart button and release it when the Power light turns orange.

Your Hub will restart and the Power light will glow steady blue. If it’s still red, reset your Hub using a paper clip to press the recessed Reset button on the back of your Hub for a few seconds."

Pages 2 and 3 clearly show the position of the Reset switch.

How much clearer need it be?

No where on your post do you say you were quoting the manual that comes with it.

Maybe some poster just say "do a reset" but I am not one of them. I always state Try a factory reset of the Homehub by pressing a pin into the recess button on the rear for about 20 seconds."

My post was also very polite and was in attempt to answer your question and if that means "stating the bleeding obvious"  perhaps that was what was needed!

I truly appreciate your efforts and have often thought there should be a 'sticky'

Liam_

But you have just shown what I am talking about "Hub for a few seconds"

The number of times that many here have read of a user who has so obviously not done a complete hard reset as requested by a guru/expert etc and then asked to do it again.

This is not a critisism of forum helpers but a request for that, IMO, vital bit that says 20 seconds.

I have just looked at the Smart Hub manual.

"use a paper clip to press your Hub's Factory Reset Button"
