Replacement for Homehub - as advised by faults team

Hey,

Sadly from moving in there have been massive issues over the last year.

My contact is up soon and would prefer not to move. Sadly the faults team have not helped and will not look an errors. They only check if the line is ok then and there

Anyway I have alot of connection issues with it dropping out alot. My last day off (my birthday) it happened 12 times. Amongst some other issues which points to the hub being an potential issue (but that stuff is for another day)

BT have suggested using a  different router. Having a look I can see that some do not like being used with BT TV (sports, etc). Sadly BT will not say what might have better odds of it working. An intresting sugestion to make and then not advise which direction is best


Anyway got any Modem & router sugestions for fibre? I can see from the forums that Netgear is to be avoided

I also saw that the openreach modem might be a good shout. I have seen people use it online, but BT helpline says it will not work.

I am at the end of my contract, is it best to stick with them or go to Zen?

Any help/advice would be really appreciated!

a popular replacement is the tplink 9980 about £35

 

you could post your router stats here and see if the forum members can help you improve your existing connection

are you currently using the test socket with a filter to see if that improves stability by eliminating your internal wiring

 

try quiet line test  dial 17070 option 2  should be quiet and best with corded phone

Thanks, appreicate that item for the potential shopping list. I don't mind paying more, but would rather a recommendation, so that helps alot!!
I have found one for about £50 with postage, that seems ok at **TPLINK TD-W9980B :: WIFI-N Gigabit router, dual band VDSL2/ADSL2+**

 



I have a few logs over times as they asked me to keep them - but won't take them to look

 

Here is the log for the WAN section of the event log
Please give me a nudge and I can get other logs too
I have logs from issues with netflix stuttering - packets getting blocked and wierd changes to the firewall.
Even when the device is not in the building it kept opening and closing connections for port fowarding.
I am not expecting fixes for the other parts, just thought I would mention incase it was helpful to people with better knoledge when looking at the log below

I have not tried the engenire port from when they changes the socket a month or two ago. Thanks for the reminder, I will sort that out now

did you try quiet line test?

I see you have renamed SSID but I would split the networks by adding a 5 to the 5ghz network as many devices do not like the networks combined  you could also select manually a channel rather than router on auto switching between channels

 

currently stable for 1+day

Sadly not yet.
I am working from home today and will do it after I clock out.
It used to be really bad, to the point you could not hear the person on the other end.

Most of my stuff is wired. Only phones are on wifi and it cuts out for all with the orange flashing light.

Yeah, it will be ok for about a week and then go balistic for a day or two resetting all the time and then back to being ok for a few days.

Open reach guys said was the faults building up over time until it is too much for the line and then goes stupid

are you using the test socket especially if you have phone extension sockets in other rooms

a noisy phone line can cause drops in connection as you describe
