Replacement modems

Go to solution
Hi

I think either my HomeHub or my Infinity router is on the blink. My speeds keep dropping down to around 2Mbps - I reboot both modems and I'm back up nearer to my 75Mbps. A few hours later, and I'm down to 2 again!! Frustrating.

Working on the assumption that these are faulty, (HomeHub about 4years old. Infinity about 18months) could I replace these 2 boxes with 1 single product, rather than the cluttered and ugly 2 box system that I currently have?

I have done some brief googling and indeed it seems possible (with a lot of tinkering of settings etc). Does anybody have any experience of doing this? Does this impact on BTWifi accessibility?

Thanks in advance.

Do you have a home hub 3, and is it only slowing down on a wireless connection?

Hi Keith.

Yes, it's a HomeHub3 and I only have WiFi devices, so can't comment on how wired speeds vary. Is this a known issue?

Its a known issue, and BT will be rolling out a fix once the testing is complete.

See https://community.bt.com/t5/Other-Broadband-Queries/HH3-Infinity-Local-WiFi-Channel-fade/td-p/144629...

Meanwhile, you only need to restart the HH3, not the modem.

Ok, thanks Keith. I guess that explains why my speed drops.

In regards to the 2nd part of my question, do you know if a single 3rd party router would result in me being unable to use BT WiFi? I hate how messy the 2 box system is!!

Using an alternative router will not stop your access to other BT Wifi hotspots, but you would not be transmitting BT Wifi.

BT now use a HH5 on its own, for Infinity, but there are other alternatives.
