Setting up Asus router with BT Broadband

Go to solution

Trying to use an Asus DSL-AC56U Wireless AC1200 with BT fibre broadband but can’t successfully connect to the internet.

I’ve updated the router’s firmware to the latest, tried auto detecting IP settings - no joy, also tried manually inputting the following (copied from BT router admin pages)

IP: 81.132.2.58

Subnet: 255.255.255.0 (this is not supplied but I’ve assumed)

Default gateway: 172.16.13.11

Primary DNS: 81.139.57.100

Secondary DNS: 81.139.56.100

PPP settings are where there is potentially an issue, the username and password I have from BT are

user: bthomehub@btbroadband.com

pass: <blank>

So when I try to set up my Asus router it *will not* let me leave the password field blank. I’ve read that BT doesn’t actually validate the password field for PPP but this is the only thing in the whole setup that seems wrong.

Any ideas/help would be much appreciated. Is it possible to get the password changed by BT?

You can put anything in the password box, most put BT.

You can't just copy the IP addresses, they are assigned by the BT BRAS when you connect.

You can put anything you want into the password field because it is not used by BT. Most people just enter "BT"

@cocymsc1986

If you do a factory reset then the Asus should take you through a wizard that if you select the correct options will set everything up for you except the username & password which you know anyway.

Thanks for your reply.

I’ve tried re running the wizard, no joy. I think mainly because I can’t leave the password blank.

Spoken to tech support and they said they can’t change that PPP password so might be a dead end for me

For the third time, you don't leave it blank. Just put BT as the password!!!

@licquorice @gg30340  Sorry didn’t see your replies, I was replying to the wizard setup response.

I had already tried doing auto detect on IP/WAN settings and just putting BT as password, no joy.

Auto detect gives ‘no response from remote server’ error, manually entering just keeps giving ‘connecting’ but gets nowhere (when I hover over status in the Router gui)

The drop down in auto setup offers BT infinity, BT infinity 2, and BT infinity (no VDSL ID), as the only BT options. I’m picking the latter but my actual subscription is BT Fibre, dunno if this is potentially the issue?
