Slow FTTP speed when using unifi USG instead of bt router

Hello there,

I'm trying to figure out why when I swap my BT router with a USG my speed gets considerably downgraded.

I've BT 900, and when I do the speed test with the BT router it points out 900+ mbps, if I swap it with the USG and try to run the speed test it barely gets to 150mbps...

I guess it's some configuration that I've wrong, but to be honest, I haven't changed much of the defaults, I'm sure the threat detection is off too.

Any help/suggestion to fix the problem would be welcome!

what is the speed of the WAN interface on the USG ?

sounds like its not gigabit.

It was supposed to be GB according to the product spec on amazon: Ubiquiti Networks Unifi Security Gateway Router   🤔

Sorry, I mean is the WAN port negotiating 1000mbps ?

Have a look on its management page, I believe it tells you the speed each port has negotiated to ?

Re: Slow FTTP speed when using unifi USG instead of bt router

You need to check your config and disable basically anything that can affect performance: IDS / DPI / Smart Queues / etc...

With all that disabled you should be able to get 800+ Mbps. Then you can maybe enable DPI as see what happens (as in theory you can get away with DPI enabled, but ymmv)

If that doesn't fix it, check you cables (from ONT to USG, from USG to your switch, etc)

In a nutshell, the USG is an old device, so performance is not the best, but you should be able to get 800+ Mbps disabling some stuff (which, tbh, you don't really need in a home setup)

Good luck!

As it is running  in excess of 100M, it has to be.

@tscolari

You may want to check with Ubiquity - UniFi Controller User Guide (ubnt.com)
