Smart Hub 2 - 2.4GHz Radio Off, but Hub thinks it is on!

Hi All,

I have recently moved house and BT kindly gave me a Smart Hub 2 to use. It worked well for about 2 weeks, but now it's started playing up about once a day.

When the problem occurs, the Hub thinks that both radios are working and that all is well, but it is very much mistaken! The 5GHz radio is working, but the 2.4GHz Radio is off!

Here's what the Hub thinks

But here's what the printer knows:-

Printer No WiFI 1.jpg

Printer No WiFI 2.jpg

It's not just the printer, the issue affects all devices that connect exclusively over 2.4GHz.

I used WiFi Analyzer on my phone to see what was going on, and sure enough, the 2.4GHz radio is off.

My Smart Hub 2 is called 'BT Router'. You can see it operating over 5GHz but not on 2.4GHz

I've tried a reset and factory reset, but neither has worked.

Why is your printer transmitting a wifi SSID?

The question was why is it transmitting an SSID, it shouldn't be.

Printers do transmit a wireless signal, that is to allow a direct computer to printer connection without involving a router.

Its called Wifi Direct, and can normally be turned off within the printer menu.

Appreciate that but the OP is trying to connect to the printer via the hub as far as I'm aware, in which case it shouldn't be in ad hoc mode.

Re: Smart Hub 2 - 2.4GHz Radio Off, but Hub thinks it is on!

Hi,

I used the printer as an example because it can only connect via 2.4GHz.

The problem isn't the printer. The problem is the router stopping 2.4GHz WiFi and disabling any devices that can only use 2.4GHz.

When I  cheked, the router 'thinks' that 2.4GHz is on, but WiFi analyser proves that it is off.

The only solution is to power cycle the Hub. It's currently using channel 1 for 2.4GHz.

Re: Smart Hub 2 - 2.4GHz Radio Off, but Hub thinks it is on!

by power cycle I assume you mean just switching hub off/on  did you try a factory reset to see if that clears the problem - press the recessed button on back and hold 20/30 secs until lights flash  remember when hub reboots to turn off smart setup

Odd example, its never going to connect to the hub in that mode.

Re: Smart Hub 2 - 2.4GHz Radio Off, but Hub thinks it is on!

I hadn't noticed before, but the router channel info is quite interesting:-

2.4 GHz wireless channel:Smart (Channel)
5 GHz wireless channel:Smart (Channel36)

There's no channel allocated to the 2.4GHz band!

Could the issue be with Smart channel ?
