Smart Hub allowed WiFi connection

Go to solution

I have a question:

My daughter bought a new Samsung A3 phone today and we sat down to connect to the Smart Hub together. She clicked on the Smart Hub SSID and the phone connected automatically to the hub.

The question is: why did the hub allow this connection to be made without the hub wifi password being entered into the phone, bearing in mind that this is a new phone out of the box?

People usually complain that they can't connect with the password.  Only thing that comes to mind is the password may have been removed either by accident or design.  Best idea is to log into the hub and check the wireless password and if blank give it one.  An unsecured wireless connection can lead to all sorts of bother.  Not least of which is being accused of downloading copyrighted content.

Presumably wireless security can be set to 'none' on the HH6 as on the HH5.

My settings are all there and on the SSID I see the padlock meaning secure. WiFi Password is present in the hub manager. No BT WiFi either.

Very strange and worrying!

As you haven't changed settings then try doing a factory reset of the hub using the recessed switch at the back.  Hold in for at least 20 seconds.  That should get things back to normal.

Just tried an experiment on my iPhone by forgetting the network and then reconnecting to the hub. It asks for the security password.

Seems Samsung have made a very Smart Phone that connects without passwords!

When she bought the phone did she get the shop to transfer all her contacts etc from her "old" phone. If she did it will probably also have transferred all settings that were stored on the "old" phone and this would have included any wireless connections that were on the phone.

Did the same thing to my daughters Samsung A3 and this time it asked for the password. Strange because as I said in my OP when we first time connected to the hub (phone out of the box) it connected automatically when clicked on the SSID without password.
