Re: Somebody tried to connect to my smart TV!!

Check to see if your TV is set up with "wifi direct" this allows wifi supported devices to connect to the TV.

https://www.samsung.com/in/support/tv-audio-video/what-is-wifi-direct-in-samsung-smart-tv/

Also check if it has Googlecast installed as somebody could be trying to cast to the wrong TV.

Do you have homeplug adapters (ethernet over powerline)?

If so, have you manually set the password so it's not the default?

Never resolved but not happend again so not worried. Think it was probably a neighbour coincidence trying to connect to the wrong device.

Thanks.

@Anotheruser1.  Good luck in your endeavours .. mere mortals like me just have to take it.

‘I foolishly bought an expensive LG smart and a little surprised it feels the need to track me.. all I wanted was a tv!

Re: Somebody tried to connect to my smart TV!!

Hello
Yep me as well LG is terrible for WiFi as well it doesn’t always auto connect to wireless I have 3 LG TVs and one Samsung. Samsung kicks **bleep** over LG.
Notice you can’t even install itv player or use itv player via the browser invalid codec.
Starting to think it’s LG fault. But I’m just waiting for it to happen again Although Bt logs shows device connection at time the incident occurred but as the logs are so limited it could have came from the tv to the router or vice vers.
Good luck with LG tv class action law suit sold to me as the best tv to use on the internet.

If at all possible you should use a wired connection. This will give you a far better signal than a wireless connection which can be prone to interference.

If you are using a wireless connection you should make sure you have turned off "Smart Set Up" on the Homehub/Smarthub.

Re: Somebody tried to connect to my smart TV!!

Thank you for a good read, im not to technical and all this with routers baffles me, being an old git in my 70s. We bought a samsung smart tv january this year and have had no probs. We have bt phone and broadband.

Whilst watching Rugby League on sky saturday15th August 2020 i had a message come up in a box top right of screen allow iphone to connect pin is ( it was 7 or 8 numbers didnt note it down) then underneath ALLOW, which was prominent, then disallow, then close, but it would not let you scroll down to deny or close, but went after about 30 seconds, it appeared twice, and this is the only time it has shown.

Is there any chance my bt router has been hacked, is our I/net still safe and secure, or should i call bt.

Don't have the tv anymore but I think the consensus was that it was probably a neighbour accidentally picking the wrong bluetooth device to connect to.
