Somebody tried to connect to my smart TV!!

Go to solution

Appreciate this may not be BT specifically, unless my hub has been hacked.

A message popped up on our Samsung Smart TV saying "XX is trying to Connect, Allow / Deny" which and afer a about 30 seconds changed to XX has disconnected.

Any ideas what exactly is going on or how i can find out what happend and what I can about it please.

FYI

We have had a HH6 for a couple of weeks.

Amazon Alexa had been setup a couple of hours previously

Thanks for any help.

Don't think it that John.

I should point out that XX was actually a persons name and the TV doesnt prompt like that.

Thanks though.

Hi Thompson,

Does your Smart TV have bluetooth?

I did a quick google search and found this on the Samsung US forum

"Thank you for this information, it seems it may be from a neighbor or someone close by who is accessing their bluetooth settings and seeing the available connection with your Anynet+ settings. Unfortunately there is not a method to block the connection from others' view and the only option for keeping others from connecting is to continue denying the pop-up. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks

Thanks PaddyB, was wondering that myself but can't find Bluetooth mentioned by name but I can connect keyboards etc so something must be there. Had looked at that thread and neigbours are more than 10' away too. I don't seem to be able to see any sort of connection history though, my menu structure is different to that posted. Our popup didnt mention Anynet.

Hi @Thompson218,

Probably a quick way to test would be to turn on the Bluetooth on your phone and see if the Smart TV comes up as one of the available devices?

Thanks

Thanks PaddyB, tried that and it doesn't appear to use Bluetooth. So WiFi then presumably. Any idea how can reproduce the message?

Re: Somebody tried to connect to my smart TV!!

Some one did the same it was a Samsung s8
I’ve been with bt for years. I’m a qualified engineer so I’m well versed with technology.
I noticed about two weeks ago using eset smart network scanner that my network was breached and someone was hooked in to my net. I reset the router and changed default admin and the network key. But yet again I’ve found someone on the network trying to access my tv. My tv does not have Bluetooth
I will be going through the router logs to find out more and scanning network again.
This is BT equipment that is being hacked and bt need to address this issue.
So now I’ve disconnected internet until I can find out more. Bt wake up and smell the coffee. If this continues to happen I will end my contract on the basis their equipment is insecure which I’m entitled to do. Bt provide the router and software including updates so that’s their issue.
Solution I have been thinking of is to hide the Broadcast name and also assign a static ip to each device and close of any others not in use.
I do have pass through wireless adapters in use but WiFi is disabled of them as it’s only used for Ethernet. So I can’t imagine any one getting in that way.

Not a chance. Never use it. I always use lengthy passwords of 8 characters at least
