Swap bt hub 6 for Netgear nighthawk x4s with what modem ?

Hi All  My Bt hub 6 keeps randomly rebooting at least twice per day, which can be annoying when im gameing the hub drops its wireless and its internet connection. After reading and ive also had the hub replaced i think its the hub that has the problem. I live rural so no fibre here but im getting 24meg dl on my broadband which im happy with I was thinking a Netgear Nighthawk X4S and a modem is this overkill or if so what modem should i use with it bearing in mind i have no fibre. Thanks

Its really total overkill and finding a modem to work with it may be an issue.

Why not try the cheaper option of the TP-Link TD-W9970 (£40), its a complete unit and works very well on ADSL, I use one.

No issues with wireless dropout and you can set the priority for your gaming computer/console.

Thinking of doing this myself. ANy ideas how good with vdsl? Current speed about 47meg. If it stops dropping then hope DLM wiill increase the speed to 55 I used to get!

I only have ADSL, but there are plenty of others on this forum using that TP Link router for VDSL for VDSL.  Its worth giving a try, as its not expensive, and has lots of extra features . It should give you the same connection speed, as DLM is dependent on the line quality.

Re: Swap bt hub 6 for Netgear nighthawk x4s with what modem ?

I replaced my SmartHub with a D7000 – Nighthawk AC1900 WiFi VDSL/ADSL Modem Router.

It has been running continously for the last 18 months.

The difficult part, for me, was determining the  login details. After a lot of searching discovered:

Login: bthomehub@btinternet.com

Password: BT

Be aware that there are some BT functions that you cannot carry out on a non BT router, such as their in house network speed test.

The D7000 will allow connection to both 2.4GHz and 5 GHz bands

2.4GHz is just fine on the TP Link, and has access to all 13 wireless channels, unlike the HH6 which only has access to three. Its easy to find an unused channel.

5GHz has very limited range anyway, and is not supported by many devices.

Unless you want spend more money just to get 5GHz.

HI

thanks for getting back. The 5g is less crowded here! The transfer speed is good!
