TP-LINK TD-W9980 Set Up

Go to solution
Hi, I have just attempted to set up my new router (I'm on BT Infinity 2 and it's replacing my HH5). I have gone through the quick set up and everything indicates that I am connected correctly, but when I try to open up a web page (either on my MacBook which is connected with an ethernet cable) or through my iPhone connected wirelessly). The DSL light on the front is solid, the wireless lights are flashing. According to the status page my downstream current rate is 70336 Kbps. I'm hoping it's something obvious I am not doing right so any advice please to get me up and running?

Many thanks in anticipation.

Download 141215 from here http://uk.tp-link.com/support/download/?model=TD-W9980&version=V1#tbl_j and see if that improves things.

Thanks licquorice. As I now can't connect to the internet I presume I'll now have to disconnect the TP Link, reconnect the HH5 and download/save the update, then reconnect the TP Link again and do the firmware update? What a kerfuffle!! Especially as my power sockets and cabling are not that easily accessible.

'fraid so, unless you download it to your phone and transfer it to your PC. It's about a 7.5M file.

All done, latest firmware version is now : 0.6.0 1.10 v0021.0 Build 141215 Rel.41342n

DSL shows Line Status as Connected
DSL Modulation Type is VDSL2
DSL light on the front of the router is solid.

When I went back to the HH5 I connected to the internet straight away. Now I'm connected to the TP-Link I can't open a webpage. I'm stumped!!

What does it show in the WAN section of the status page?

Just a thought, when I first got the TP Link it didn't seem to like the Authentication set to Auto (although it seems to work ok now) It might be worth trying changing the Authentication type to CHAP in the WAN service setup.  If you go to Network > WAN settings >edit and change it there.
