Does anyone know the settings needed to replace the BT Smart Hub with a 3rd party router for an FTTP (Or Fibre to the Home as BT call it) connection. The Smart Hub doesnt have bridge mode so I cant do that (and anyway I would prefer not to have an extra bit of kit thats not really needed)
Please note that this is for FTTP and not FTTC (I know how to do it with FTTC!!)
Would be grateful for some help. I called the FTTH BT team and they dont know - silly me for thinking that the company that provide the connection might actually know how to connect to it.
As far as I'm aware it will be exactly the same for FTTP as FTTC, i.e a PPPoE connection with username firstname.lastname@example.org and password BT if router requires it. You obviously need to connect to the router's WAN port rather than DSL port.
Thanks for that. That appears to be the answer....sometimes cant see the wood for the trees. I had tried that, but with no luck, but I was using a Unifi USG router and it doesnt give itself enough time to complete the PPPoE before whinging that it cant connect. Swapped it for a Draytek where you have better control over starting the PPPoE session, used the details as you said and hey presto. Now changed back to the USG and all good.
That was a tasty sweet of an answer Licquorice. Thanks
