Updating BT Smart Hub Firmware

Go to solution

Hi,

I have a general question about how BT Smart Hub firmware updates are delivered. Do you have to be on a BT network for them to be delivered?

I understand that the BT Smart Hub is locked to BT, however it is still possible to use it as a general Wireless Access Point with use in conjunction with a seperate VDSL modem, to use with a differnet ISP.

If this was the case, would I still receive updates to the BT Smart Hub, even though it is not being used on a BT contract? I'm assuming that I won't receive any updates because I'm no longer on BT? Or is this completely wrong, and BT will still send me updates to the firmware?

Thanks a lot,

Unless I am mistaken the Homehub is authenticated on the BT network by your BT telephone number. Obviously if you are not a BT customer you will not have a BT telephone number and as such your Homehub will not be registered on their network, so no updates will be sent to it.

If you are with Plusnet you will definitely get firmware updates for the BT Smart Hub.
