Re: Using BT Fibre FTTP with UniFi Security Gateway (USG) 3P (without BT Smart Hub)

Go to solution

April 2023, and these instructions still work on USG 3P 4.4.57 managed by CloudKey2. I called BT to ask where is the bridge mode setting (modem mode) on the brand new SmartHub 2. The chap said the setting had been removed in favour of WiFi discs or something. He then offered to send me a SmartHub 1, which does still have the setting <shrug>

Found this post, and cutting out the SmartHub2 is pretty straight forward. One thing to note is that I had to go to the legacy interface on the CloudKey2 (Settings -> System -> Advanced). Once PPPoE is configured you can switch back to the new UI, and mysteriously now PPPoE settings are visible under settings -> internet -> Wan1.

Setup now looks like:

ONT Lan -> USG WAN1 -> USG LAN1 -> Rest of network.

The chap was talking complete tosh. NO residential BT Hub has ever had or will have a bridge mode.

Incorrect. I've just done this an hour ago with a non-2 Smart Hub; the page is hidden but accessible.

Go to advanced then broadband. change the last part of the url to routing (i don't recall what is)

Bridge mode is at the bottom.

That is how it is done on BT Business hubs. Are you using a BT Business hub?

For older hubs.

It was the kit issued in April 2019 for residential connections. Not used since the engineer left so it's been offline for over 4 years, I'll find the firmware version and screenshot the pages etc. Hope it hasn't been updated

A bit of a resurrection post but likely someone will google find this thread. The BT Smart Hub 2 HOME/ Residential version does not contain the code to utilise the hardware in bridge mode aka modem only mode. The only way to get this option is via the BT Business Smart Hub 2
