Virgin Hub 3, BT Whole Home - Should I leave the Virgin Hub Wifi on and place 1st Disc away from it?

Go to solution

I have have Virgin Hub 3, with 3 BT Whole Home discs setup, with the Wifi currently off.

The question, should I turn on the Virgin Hub wifi, then place the other 3 discs around the house, so give a wider coverage of Strong WIFI throughout the house. (The discs strength are 'Excellent' in the main part and 'Good' in a couple of the wider rooms).

I am running Ethernet around the house for backhaul and hardwire TV's etc, so this gives me the opportunity to place the 1st disc in a different place

Or would this diminish the overall point and performance of a mesh network, where 1 AP is the router a non BT mesh device?

@Compact If you decide to use the whole home wifi discs as wireless AP's there is no need to turn off your virgin hub/router wi-fi. Just remember on your devices to ‘forget this network’ for your hub/router, making sure you are connected to the Whole Home Wi-Fi network.

However, turning off your hub/router wi-fi may improve your Whole Home Wi-Fi performance, particularly where there are lots of other wireless networks.

I was wondering if the virgin hub had the same SSID name, password & channel as the BT disc then devices could swap onto that in that part of the house.

So not as seamlessly as when in range of a BT disc .

Or would the device hold onto the virgin Hubs signal even when the BT disc is stronger?

Thanks

@Compact I don't think the discs will work as intended if you do that as your Virgin hub won't be part of the mesh network, this is why its recommended to forget the Virgin Hub or turn off it's wifi to prevent issues.
