What is the best aftermarket router to get for BT fibre to the home

Hello,

With the BT Home Hub 6 I cannot get my CCTV to work.  The ports just wont open.

I have got my CCTV working with an older router I have, but the WIFI on that router is not the best.  The WIFI on the BT Home Hub seems really good.

What would be the best aftermarket router that I could open the correct ports on, but also has a good WIFI signal and range.

Thanks in advance

Steven

Purely a matter of personal preferences. Any 3rd party router will be better than any ISP supplied one.

TP-Link are very popular with users on here. Just make sure whichever one you get suits your network needs.

Define 'best'.

Just make sure that it is a VDSL modem/router. Price is usually proportional to wireless speeds, but unless you are streaming within your LAN from a NAS etc, then your broadband speed will be the governing speed and anything faster pointless.

You will need to remove the link. It is against forum rules to link to ecommerce sites.

Re: What is the best aftermarket router to get for BT fibre to the home

Here are a couple of suggestions.

TP-Link AC1200 Wireless Dual Band VDSL/ADSL about £67

https://www.tp-link.com/uk/products/details/cat-15_Archer-VR400.html#specifications

If you only want single band wireless, then this one.

The TP-Link TD-W9970 for about £40 or less.

https://www.tp-link.com/uk/products/details/cat-15_TD-W9970.html#specifications

They both work will all BT services, including BT YouView.

That is just a router, you would need to buy a modem as well. One of these would be OK for you at about £40.

TP-LINK TD-W9970 300Mbps Wireless N USB VDSL/ADSL2+ Modem Router

You don’t need a VDSL modem for a fibre to the home connection.

Re: What is the best aftermarket router to get for BT fibre to the home

Isn't the TP link W9970 limited to speeds up to 100Mbps which may be lower than the package speed on an ultrafast connection ? or would this not apply if it is used purely as a router?
