Hello, I am due to leave BT in the coming weeks to join Sky Broadband.
What router does everyone recommend which performs just as good as the Smart Hub for speeds over wifi, but hasn't got those horrible antennas?!
I will need a replacement as I have to send the BT hub back as I am in contract.
The hub wouldn't work in any case as it will be locked to BT.
The best WiFi performance is obtained with external aerials whether you like them or not. All routers emit the same WiFi power as it is governed by law, performance is governed by aerial design.
The Smart Hub gives me top wifi without antennas sticking out.
I wanted to know if there was an equivalent, non BT router like the smart hub.
Because the hub isn't really that good, it may be fine in your environment but you don't really know its true capabilities in a more demanding environment. It is no coincidence that all high end routers have external aerials.
For me, the smart hub is very powerful. I get wifi everywhere.
Do you know of any alternatives without antennas?
Agreed, but if it isn't in a challenging environment any wifi will be good.
Have a look at the Zyxel AC2200, I can't vouch for it all though I'm afraid and you will need a standalone modem as it is only a router. https://www.zyxel.com/uk/en/products_services/AC2200-MU-MIMO-Dual-Band-Wireless-Gigabit-Router-NBG68...
If you’re switching to Sky they should provide you with a router. Why not wait before buying a third party router to see how that performs?
Not sure what Sky are like now but they would never give you a username & password to use in a replacement modem/router.
It was possible with some of their earlier devices to calculate it from the MAC address I think but then it became necessary to use something like Wireshark to trap the messages from their router when it logged in to get the username & password.
So don't rush out and get a replacement as you might not be able to use it anyway.
