WiFi adapter gives poor performance with Home Hub 5

Go to solution

Using Realtek WiFi adapter with Windows 10 64-bit. Worked very well with a Home Hub 4, giving 7 Mbps download speed, but performance dropped off drastically with a Home Hub 5, download speed dropping to 1.5 Mbps.

A different wifi equipped machine works well with the same Home Hub 5, which is baffling.

What settings can I adjust on the Home Hub 5?

The answer is "yes" to both. As regards splitting the networks - the Home Hub 4 that this wifi adapter works well with has not had the networks split.

One thing I forgot to mention - the Speed Test shows an upload speed far higher than the download speed - about 6 Mbps. Does this mean anything?

Buy a Home Hub 4 on eBay and throw the HH 5 in the bin, it's a piece of poorly conceived rubbish and more trouble than it's worth.

Seriously, that sounds like the easiest option since I have no wish to waste money buying a replacement wifi adapter that may or may not work.

If you're going to spend money, get a proper router not another HH.

I know that the wifi adapter in question works 100% OK with a Home Hub 4 and they're dirt cheap on ebay, so why spend any more?
