WiFi channel selection

For the last few months I have been experiencing Wi-Fi drop out averaging about 9x/month. BT have replaced the SH2 router but the problem has not gone away (although BT have).

It was suggested that there is a lot of congestion on the line that peaks at certain times of the day, but as channel selection is describer as “smart”, the Hub should automatically select the channel with the strongest signal to avoid drop-out.

To monitor this situation I installed a WiFi analyser (Wi-Fi Explorer Lite from Intuitibits) and what I have seen thus far is that on the 2.4GHz band the router has remained on channel 1 at around -58dBm.

However, WiFi dropped out again at around 10:00am this morning, which I would not think was a peak time. I followed the usual switch off/on routine and when it came back on line the channel had switched to 11 at around 60dBm.

My question concerns the so called smart switching. Is it dynamic in that it constantly monitors and changes the band for optimum signal strength, or is it passive and only selects the band on a single occasion (at re-start). Appreciate it if anybody has an explanation

Re: WiFi channel selection

it should be monitoring the wifi and selecting best channel for your devices and changing to best channel.  however it would be better if you used a wifi analyser to check the wifi channels in use near you then select a fixed channel with less/no congestion
