Wifi speeds are half of ethernet speeds

Hi guys.

I've been with BT since December and noticed that intitially we were getting the full 300+ fibre speeds on both ethernet and wifi.

Since then, the wifi speeds have dropped to  around 80Mbps. I've changed channels on the router to improve this and it's got to over 100Mbps, but this still doesn't seem right.

The router is away from other electrical equipment, there has been no changes in what's connected (several Amazon Echo's and normally 2 iPhones), so is there something I'm missing to improve this? These speeds are me directly in front of the router.

Thanks in advance

James

Re: Wifi speeds are half of ethernet speeds

Welcome to this user forum.

Try a factory reset of the home hub.

Then turn Smart Setup off.

Also try separating and renaming the SSIDs.

You may be suffering from wireless interference from another nearby wireless network on the same or adjacent channel.

Re: Wifi speeds are half of ethernet speeds

Thanks for the response Keith.

I've turned smart setup off already, but will give it a factory reset later to see if this helps. I don't seem to be able to rename the SSIDs on my hub which is a bit of a pain.

Re: Wifi speeds are half of ethernet speeds

you should be able to change the SSID ( I changed mine) but some characters are not permitted and no spaces

You can change the SSID, but they will always be the same for both bands.

Changing the wireless password on your BT Hub

Use  change the network name.
