Thank you so much.
The only difference I can see (and correlation) which I dont know if it has anything to do with anything. Is that in your ping spike data, your core4-hu0-17-0-9.faraday.ukcore.bt.net is showing a DNS name, and in the fixed ping tests the faraday.ukicore.bt.net is not showing with a DNS name.
All my ping data shows the DNS name and not just the IP. Your faraday IP seems to be 184.108.40.206, and mine is 220.127.116.11
In any case the comparison might provide some data to solve the issue on my end too. We'll see.
Some of this may help but overall it's all beyond our control and also beyond control of the people that deal with broadband problems / the public.
The big problem with dealing with anyone in BT is that they don't care about ping they only care about speed and their TV service, I bet if you rang up and said your TV service is losing frames and stuttering they'd be on it real quick.
I have no idea how or why my connection got fixed because the last conversation I had with BT was that they basically said tough luck pal your speed is correct, there's no fault, you're under contract and we're not letting you leave without fees even though they was supplying 1980's dial up modem level of latency. Needless to say I was not happy and I'm sure I'd still be bashing away at BT now if it hadn't been fixed
I've had enough, on Monday I will call to cancel my contract. I'm getting ping spikes with no one using the internet on a wired PS4, my line is clean no issue and they even sent me their new router no fix. I'm paying £42 a month just to stare at my PS4 cause I can't play any online game.
If you are gamer or have kids who game, do not use BT.
Talking to one of the CS Reps in Dublin was nice, she seemed to care. Assigned a Fiber Engineer and not a Qube Engineer who could do absolutely nothing like the Web Chat did.
Hopefully I can show the Fiber Engineer what's happening and we can work through it and see if there's a solution.
Will let you know after Mondays visit.
@TRrift how is your ping issues doing ? I noticed we have the exact issue, I also get ping spikes when no one is using the internet and it's getting worst lately. I went from being able to play for few hours when no one is using the internet to not being able to play at all.
I have an open reach engenier coming on Monday and if he fails to fix it, BT told me they will escalate it to a specialist team.
UPDATE: has been almost 5/6 months now and although now its fine in the day its DREADFUL at night all over the place gets me killed in games and i play competitively trying to earn money, u can NOT play at a high level or competitive level without steady ping rates!! I WOULD NOT RECOMMENCED BT TO ANY GAMERS DO NOT TRUST THEM IF UR INTERNET BREASK THEY WILL NOT FIX IT. idk what bt did but they changed something months ago and it has royally F***** me over thanks BT really appreciate it been so bored idk what to do on the verge of going insane.
My issue is not fixed I'm still experiencing ping spikes. The BT specialist team told me to wait 10 days so I'm waiting to see if it's gonna be improved this week if not in gonna switch to Sky or Zen.
