I am trying to open up my Calibre book library on my PC to the internet, so I can access my books whilst travelling.
Calibre has its own web sever and is running on a networked PC under the PC,s internal IP address on port 8080.
I know I have a BT dynamic external IP address, so I have set up NoIP and downloaded the update client to my PC and pointed it to my BT external IP address. Checked and the IP address is up to date.
I have opened up the BT smart router port forwarding to my PC on It’s 192.168.1.xxx all to port 8080. Both TCP and UDP
I have set up the NoIP page on the dynamic VPN which it says is connected.
I have also opened up the Windows 8.1 firewall to port 8080 for Calibre both in and out
when I try to log in, both via my NoIP address and via the Calibre test server, I get a server not server found response.
When I do a port check from the web I get the message back that port 8080 is not open. I have set calibre and the smart hub to other ports but get the same.
So has anyone any idea where I have gone wrong from my reading and from the web help sites I should be ok, but obviously I have made a mistake somewhere.
any help would be greatly appreciated
Nowhere have you said that you have set up port forwarding to the internal IP address of your server.
There is no need to change any firewall settings.
Sorry missed that bit out, I have set port forwarding up to the calibre internal IP address and ports. Thanks you for pointing that out I will amend the post , I think when I posted fire wall I meant port forwarding.
Try turning off UPnP, it can sometimes conflict with port forwarding.
Turned of UPnP no joy, but thank you one thing ruled out. I just pinged my external IP address so its there but not open

The port will only be open when the application is in use.
There is no NAT loopback on the home hubs so you will need to access the application via a different network, e.g 4G etc.
