Hi. I bought a BT Decor 1200 last month. All works fine with it, however, it has created an issue with the other phones in the house. I have the Decor as the main phone downstairs, however, since using it, the two phones upstairs occasionally make a noise. When the Decor is not even being used, the two phones upstairs will occasionally make a noise (at the same time). Its always the same; one 'beep' (the same noise made as when the phone is hung up after being used), followed about 2-3 seconds later by another 'beep.
Any ideas on what the problem is? This noise also disconnects by Internet connection, too. Ideas?
Is there any background noise on the line when you make a phone call?
Dial 1471 17070 and choose option 3 (Quiet Line Test) and see if you can hear any noise.
I dialled 17070 and chose option 2 (thats what the quiet line option was), and there was no noise.
Its possible there is a fault in your internal wiring.
Which type of master socket do you have?
One of these
Or one of these
Or if you are lucky
One of these
I have the first one, and it says "openreach..BT" on the top half.
To prove that there is no fault on the BT line, you need to remove the two screws on the lower "user removable" section, and plug each phone in turn, into the "test" socket at the back.
Dial 1470 17070 and select option 2 (quiet line test), and see if you can hear any noise on the line.
If they both work properly when both plugged into the "test" socket, then the problem is within your home and not the responsibility of BT or Openreach. It could be a fault on your extension wiring, as the phones should not interfere with each other.
If they still give problems when in the "test" position, then the fault is outside of your house, and you will have to report it to BT, who will ask Openreach to investigate.
