BT Diverse background noise

Go to solution
Hi

Before I had EE normal speed broadband and my BT Diverse 4010 cordless phone worked fine. Since the recent installation of BT superfast broadband and BT Smarthub, that particular handset gives background noise, but the corded phone upstairs works fine. I have swapped the phones over and only the cordless one has the problem.

Does anyone know what to do?

Welcome to this user forum.

There could be some broadband leakage getting into the phone despite the filtering.

Try an extra filter in series with the phone, as shown here.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it did not work. I even tried a third microfilter in series, but it didn't work.

Is the phone base station near the BT Home Hub?

It is two feet away, however the problem remains when I connect the cordless phone to the upstairs extension socket about 8 feet away from the BT Smarthub

Is the background noise still there with the hub turned off?

What does your master socket look like, and how is the extension socket wired in?

Master socket with one socket

Or

Master socket with two sockets

It is still there with the router switched off. The socket looks like the first group.

Which one of the group, as so far, it appears to be a fault with the phone itself. DECT phones can sometimes have a very slight noise.

However up until I changed over from EE normal speed broadband to BT superfast broadband on 5/11/18, the BT Diverse phone worked without any issues.

You need to plug the Diverse phone directly into the test socket, I assume that your socket has one, as you did not specify which one you had?

At the same time, make sure that when the test socket is in use, that the extension socket does not have dial tone on it, as accessing the test socket, should disconnect any extensions.

How loud is the background noise?
