BT Openreach is no Longer owned by BT?....

I am confused...An Openreach Engineer ( Richard on the IOW), came yesterday to try and fix my faullty phone line..

After saying it tests fine, he had to agree it was still faulty as it was very noisy.....He then said the fault was external. He went to the cabinet and checked it and said it was fine there, but still noisy at my home. He then said the fault was so complicated it had to be dealt with by a special faults engineer.

I asked him how long it would be until special faults invetsigate and I was told I had to call BT....

He said that although it said BT Openreach on his van he had nothing to do with BT and as BT was my service provider I had to call them to get a Special Faults engineer assigned.... His leaving comment was that he only had 30mins assigned to my fault and I had already had 1 hours of his time and that he wasnt supposed to check it at the cabinet only in the house.

I am still puzzed by:-

1/ Have BT now sold Openreach?

2/ Do engineers have assigned times to fix faults and why did I only have 30 mins

3/ Why did he have Laders on thr roof of his van if he only goes into House to do checks.

Oh well...Its been reported again, where the agent read the notes and said "oh yes its faulty externally"....although on the tracking was shown as fixed..

Anyone help me with my confusion?

Re: BT Openreach is no Longer owned by BT?....

What they meant is that Openreach has nothing to do with BT Retail, your Service Provider. Openreach is a BT Group company who provide the installation and repair for all service providers, apart from Virgin Media.

Re: BT Openreach is no Longer owned by BT?....

Umm.....what do Openraech actually do?.

They do not repair line faults - between my House and the exchange?

They do not repair faults if they are in exchanges?

All they do is arrive at your house and say " the fault is not in my house but in BT retails network"....

If thats the  case - then why do they exist?.....seems a good job they no longer have any realtionship with BT as it seems from what you say I should call BT retail with my fault.

Cna you tell me what the number is as I think its gine out to an Openreach engineer

Re: BT Openreach is no Longer owned by BT?....

Openreach do infact deal with line faults and exchange problems however some fault require specialist engineers
You need to contact your service provider BT Retail and they will arrange for the Openreach specialist engineer YOU cannot contact Openreach directly as they only work with the service providers such as BT Retail Talk Talk Sky and many others

Re: BT Openreach is no Longer owned by BT?....

The engineer should have passed the job back for it to have been reskilled. it should not be up to you to re report it.

Re: BT Openreach is no Longer owned by BT?....

Thanks everyone but this is now mad..

I rasied it to the moderator and have had a call from BT....

Gues what they are sending an Openreach Engineer ...why I ask as they have aleady been and found the fault is in the BT network and not in my house..... Ricahrd the Openreach engineer todl me that I need BT retail engineer as Openreach do not fix cable faults in the BT network and only cehck peoples houses - I guess that is why I have another text telling me about how Openreach want to charge me... I just hope its not Richard but as being on the IOW I guess its going to be..

Thats another day off work and still a phone line that cant be used....

PLEASE tell me how to get a BT engineer who is not Openreach......And an Engineer who fixes overhead and underground or exchange faults...

Re: BT Openreach is no Longer owned by BT?....

There is no such thing as a BT Retail Engineer they all work for Openreach you have been misinformed

the post above from Devon_Dave explains the engineer should have passed the job back for re skilling it was not up to you to have to report it again simply put your last engineer did not do the correct procedure

Re: BT Openreach is no Longer owned by BT?....

Well from what I was just told, it seems he didnt...

Seems that it fell into the same category as the rest of his information that he told me....

.BT just called me and booked an Openreach engineer but it seems I need a special engineer that can fix my fault...

How can I get one of these special engineers instead of another Openreach engineers?
