BT2700 handsets - call volume fades away.

Go to solution

My father hrecently purchased 4 BT2700 handsets & hub, but has been having problems with calls fading away (as if the volume is being turned down.) The problem appears to affect all of his handsets - one of them within a few minutes of making/taking a call, the others a little longer...it varies.

All instructions were followed to the letter when my Dad recieved the handsets - fully charged up etc. My Dad is a very light phone user so it's not as if he's rnning the batttery down either.

We know that his line/internal wiring is all good as he very recently had a brand new master socket installed (to rectify some brioadband issues).

Any advice would be hugely appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

Steve

Does it still fade away if you unplug the broadband router?

Hi Keith - thanks for your reply. I'll ask my dad to try unplugging the router. Just so I'm clear, are you suggesting physically removing the broadband cable from the microfilter in the wall, turning off the router power, or both?

Thanks

I would simply remove the broadband cable from the microfilter. I am trying to prove whether the loss is being caused by the router itself, or broadband signal leakage into the phone.

Unplugging the cable would eliminate both possibilities. Just powering off router would only eliminate the first one.

It it BT broadband, or a different ISP?  If it is BT, which home hub has he got?

If the home hub is an old home hub 1, 1.5 or 2, then there is some internal phone circuity which can fail, and affect the volume.

Any idea whiich master socket was fitted?

Single master sockets

Filtered master sockets

The filtered ones do not need a microfilter, as the phone and home hub are on separate sockets.

Thanks.

If you look at my edited post, can you identify which number socket was fitted?

I'm not at the property, so will have to ask my Dad to investigate this at the same time as trying to unplug the Smart Hub - hope to have answers tomorrow.

Thanks for all your help thus far.
