BT8500 Call Blocker Handset issues

Go to solution

I have a BT8500 with master base/handset and two extra handsets.

I have an issue with one of my handsets where it appears to switch on and off when trying to use it.

It has a "full battery" charge indication, and I tried changing the batteries for a fresh set.

When trying to use it, the screen goes blank and the handset dead, then comes back to life with the BT symbol. It continues to do this until replaced on the base.

Battery problem? or is there a fault with this handset?  I'm just seeking advice before consdiering buying a new handset.

The rest of the system is running fine. All long out of guarantee.

Thanks!

Welcome to this user forum.

It sounds like the connection to the batteries could be loose, or not making good contact.

As a quick test, put a couple of new ordinary alkaline batteries into the handset, checking they are inserted correctly and are making contact.

Do not put it on the charger base, just turn the phone on, and see if it works.

D'Oh - I should have thought of that. Sorry.

Yep - those batteries are fine so I've got a duff set of rechargables.

Thanks! Problem resolved.

Except, that any rechargables I put in cause this on/off cycling - even when recharging on the base.

I assume this is an issue with the batteries.

I'll go out and get a fresh pack!

Could be the base charger, what happend if you move the handset to a different base charger?

Popped another on the base unit and it is fine. (But then it is charged anyway).  Wonky handset also fine on another charge base although still recycling when take off.

I won't waste your time: I must have a duff set of rechargeables, which is a pain. It's a trip out to the shops I think!

Many thanks for your help, Keith!

You could always swap the rechargeable batteries with another handset, that would prove whether it was the batteries.
