Re: BT8600 Call Guardian Phone Problem

Hi Keith,  With Gall Guardian "off" - saved callers details are shown on screen, the ring tone I have allocated to specific callers takes place as expected.

With Call Guardian "off" new caller number is displayed - it does not say unknown caller on my test run.

With Call Guardian "on" saved callers details shown on screen, ring tone selected to identify them sounds  BUT they have to announce them selves and I get the message that an announced caller is on the line.

With Call Guardian "on" unsaved or new callers are greeted with the Screening message, when they leave number and press hash, my phone rings with the "tone" I selected to identify new callers and they are announced for me as usual.

Thanks for your interest in my question

Re: BT8600 Call Guardian Phone Problem

Hi there, just forget Call Guardian, nobody at BT or elsewhere has ever come up with a solution for this problem.

Eons ago I switched Call Guardian off and now use Call Protect.

When some unknown caller (scam or marketing) gets through, I hang up and dial 1572 and add them to my personal black list.

I have just checked my blacklist and there are 40 calls in there.

There are 207 calls into my junk email box, which I don't look at - why should I !!

So bottom line is - bin Call Guardian and use Call Protect.

Re: BT8600 Call Guardian Phone Problem

Sorry I meant to add that with Call Protect on, all numbers calling are displayed and my personal ringtones all work. Sorted.

That's all very well, but I've never found blacklisting to be worth the bother. The vast majority of my junk calls only call once from a particular number. Call Guardian (when it works!) also has the advantage that it carries on working when you switch provider.

Re: BT8600 Call Guardian Phone Problem

My 8500 setup has recently started screening all calls including those in my contacts lists

@davidwf

Make sure that your caller display service is still working, as that is a requirement.

Please check to see if  Caller Display is switched on by entering the code * # 234 #. If it's active you'll get the message Caller identity will be displayed.

If you have recently renewed your contract, it may have been omitted.

Re: BT8600 Call Guardian Phone Problem

I too am having the same problem over the last few weeks. It does not seem to be related to Caller Display as I see the name of the person who is ringing when it comes through with the announcement.

Call Protect is a waste of time.  It is retrospective so never blocks the real time wasters as they use different numbers each time.  Also, there is a max of 100 you can blacklist and its really slow and tedious to remove numbers once you get to 100

Re: BT8600 Call Guardian Phone Problem

Thanks for that wblann.

I agree that Call Protect does not get rid of the computer dialled ones, because as you say they seem to generate a new random number each time.

I still add them to my personal black list which is at around 60 now so expect I will reach the 100 point sometime soon!

I am registered with TPS, but that doesn't seem to work very well either.

It is a great shame that BT did not sort out the problem with call Guardian which was very effective when it worked correctly!!
