I loaned my big button 200 phone to a neighbour who had 1571 service on his line.
Since getting the phone back, I cannot get a dialling tone and make calls. The main difference between our lines is that I do not use 1571, he does. Is this the cause of my problem and, if so, how can I get around it?

That would seem unlikely, but you could remove the batteries for a couple of minutes, and see if it helps.
Also check that the cord is undamaged and its plugged in at both ends.
I would also try your phone line, using a different phone, just in case its faulty.
Thanks for your advice.
the phone line works because I’ve used another phone to dial 1571, to be told I have no message services as I expected.
I have replaced the batteries with a new set and replaced the line cord with a brand new one. One new thing is that the green light below the 1571 button is lit.
Are you sure that none of the buttons are stuck down?
If all else fails, then you would have to call the product helpdesk.
Thanks again Keith. I spoke to the product helpdesk, as it is out of warranty and is a basic phone, there was little they could offer. I was not going to be defeated, so adjusted the battery contacts to make sure that the new batteries were making good contact, and, lo and behold, it now works. Problem resolved
