Caller ID suddenly stopped working circa 2 weeks ago. 8 Calls to BT, various agents, all suggesting to stop & start the service package and yet still no result!!! Open Reach engineer came to the house, (No mask, no gloves, and no regard to safe distance), tried it and worked whilst he was here (the whole of 2 minutes)...and since then has stopped working again.
It's intermittent and on the odd occasions it shows the ID, but majority to nearly all other times just shows "External"
So fed up with going around in circles with BT and not getting anywhere. Open Reach engineer suggested its "BT's issue to solve"...
Please help as so much of my time has been wasted going around in circles

I'm really sorry to hear about the problems you are experiencing with your caller display.
Have you tried another phone to rule out that the phone could be causing the fault?
While this question might not seem relevant do you have broadband on the line and if so is it fibre or copper?

Do you have other devices plugged into your phone line? If you are using any plug in broadband filters they have been known to block the incoming caller display.
I have sent you all the inforamtion you asked for - but have not heard anything and issue still remains!
It can take a while for the moderators to contact you back, however they will look into the situation and do their best to resolve it. They are a small UK based team who will take ownership of the issue.
