Can 0800 Phone Numbers Be Used In Scams?

Would it be possible for scammers to use O800 numbers when calling landlines?  Thank you all for any help.

Re: Can 0800 Phone Numbers Be Used In Scams?

Scammers seem to be able to spoof any number, so its quite possible.

Re: Can 0800 Phone Numbers Be Used In Scams?

Scammers do not use the number that you actualy see. They spoof the number to appear as though it is a different number so the answer is yes they can appear to use 0800 numbers.

See link about spoofing.

Re: Can 0800 Phone Numbers Be Used In Scams?

I thought the 0800 numbers were British free numbers but on the phone screen the word INTERNATIONAL preceded the 0800 number so I didn't answer the phone, I've never seen that before.  I am starting to get the usual Indian caller scams again, they had stopped for quite a while.

Genuine 0800 numbers that you call are free numbers but as has been explained, when scammers call you they are hiding their real number by "spoofing" the number that you see to show it as a 0800 number.

Thank you for replying, the word "International" preceded the 0800 number which I have never seen before on my phone screen. I didn't answer the phone
