Damaged connection

Go to solution

pic1.pngHi all,

We have perfectly working broadband but a builder doing some work for us noticed the coloured wires going into the landline socket are mostly  detached. How is it still working?! More importantly I guess, will BT sort this if it inevitably perishes one day?!

Pics attempted to be attached.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Damaged connection

you only need 2 of the wires connected but there are spare pairs in most cables hence why your broadband and phone still work  if broadband/phone stopped working then just phone ISP who will get openreach engineer appointment

Hi. As IMjolly says this is not a problem. Just open up the socket, poke the spare (green/brown) wires back inside the socket. Refix it back to the wall and forget about it

Thanks for the replies above.

I've just returned from holiday to a flashing purple light and no broadband. The diagnostic check found no issues. Could the wiring be the issue even though it has worked like this for ages? Any checks I can do?

Thanks.

@dweaver3481

Are you using a corded or cordless phone?

Sometimes you will get the message "please check the line cord" on a cordless phone if it's not picking up a dial tone.

It's best to test with a corded phone if you have one.

Cordless, unfortunately I don't have access to a corded one.

Good chance that there is a fault on the landline. I will also send you a Private Message with details on how you can get in contact with the mod team however the private message may not be picked up until early next week.

It would be best to call 0800 800 151 and report the fault to get the ball rolling.

Thanks

Matt
