Do we pay for the engineer?

We have reported a fault with our phone. BT have checked the whole line and say that the fault appears to be either in or near our home and an engineer will need to come out. They will contact us. If an engineer is needed, are we charged for the callout?

Re: Do we pay for the engineer?

There is a guide as to whether you will be charged, on this page.

http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12439/c/

If the fault is within your wiring or boundary, then you are likely to be charged.

Have you done all the tests on this page?

http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9812/c/345,353

The automatic test is not very accurate, so it may be a fault in the street cabinet.

Re: Do we pay for the engineer?

To add...

If the engineer does enter your property and finds a fault there, after the master socket, ply him/her with plenty of tea and biscuits. I'm not saying he/she will, but their paperwork may omit any issue after the master socket, thus saving you £90. It's been done before;)
