Re: Fake phone call from BT - broadband will be cut off today

I still get 2 calls per hour starting at 8:35 until 10:35, it's been a week now. I reported it on the BT website call protect, but that didn't do anything. I have an answer machine and I have also made this number a blocked number ages ago. The only good thing now is that the phone doesn't ring when to call comes through and nothing goes on my answer machine. I just check the phone for the phone symbol and only clear that because I don't want that symbol from burning into my phone screen. I've given up hope but will hope that it's computer realises that the number doesn't get answered. Or I might simply unplug the phone and just use my mobile.

If you really want to stop these calls getting to you then a phone with Call Guardian, or something similar, is the answer.

Or, as I have said before - BT Call Protect with the Do Not Disturb function add on (paid for) and set up a VIP list. Works very well indeed. Shame you have to pay for it, but then, you have to pay for all these fancy phones as well.

Rob.

Reported another 4 calls today.

They come and go.

Its fun winding them up

Ask for them to tell you your customer account number before you will speak to them further

I got an amusing reply once

Me "whats my customer account number"

Him "ah, yes, its **Edited**

then he hung up, giggled for an hour 🙂

Re: Fake phone call from BT - broadband will be cut off today

I had got an Indian or African woman originally who didn't know what broadband was. I had gone into the BT App to order Broadand Plus and two days later the calls started. Then after I put the phone down on the woman, it started from that. The idea is not to speak to anyone which I hadn't after that.

Re: Fake phone call from BT - broadband will be cut off today

Yes I have just had exactly the same call this afternoon.  I actually had a real person call me last Friday, but they hung up when challenhged.   On dialling 1471 the number it came from was 01963047092.  Beware!

See http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/48253/kw/scam%20calls/c/761,6077

Nothing to do with BT.

If you respond, then they know there is a real person on the end, and will add you to a "suckers" list, and you will get even more calls, so just hang up and do not speak, or press any buttons.

They will also try to extract personal information from you.

There are lots of thread on this board about this.

The number is usually spoofed, and changes so you cant block it. No idea how they manage that.

They use VoIP systems and set the caller ID. Many "provider" allow the users to simply enter any number they wish to set, usually some form of configuration setting. The VoIP service then sets the outbound number.
