IP address compromised

Go to solution

Have just had a phone call from someone stating that they were from BT technical department (sounded like an Indian call centre) and that my IP address had been compromised as it was now a public IP address not a private one. Is this a scam and if so has anybody else had these calls.

Re: IP address compromised

It's a well known scam, BT can't do anything to stop it.

If you report it here

https://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumer/edw/scams/

the number can be added to the Call Protect blacklist but it won't stop these scammers using another number.

Re: IP address compromised

Like many others, I receive these types of calls on a fairly regular basis.

Another similar one is a recorded message, asking you to press '1' to get put through to an engineer (DON'T!).

Best thing to do with these is hang-up, block the number (if you have Call Protect), and report it to BT here:

https://www.bt.com/help/home/scams/

and Action Fraud here:

Yep a complete scam, just ignore it or just humour them for a while. At least whilst you are doing that they are  not calling someone else
