Is it possible to get a new line on a condemned pole.

We requested a separate line for a business and a man came round and said the pole was not safe to climb ( fair enough ) and would request a cherry picker . Second Man came round - minus cherry picker and said pole was on the ?? register  as no longer fit and as such no new line could be attached to it . Apparently not dangerous even though it is in neighbours front garden and adjacent  to our garage. Several very helpful people have been on the phone saying not a problem but cannot get any engineers to agree. Is there any communication within  BT to resolve a problem

as you are trying to get a business line you need to post on business forum as this form is for residential

Re: Is it possible to get a new line on a condemned pole.

TBH, it’s not for service providers to decide what is safe to climb and what isn’t.
If a pole is ‘D’ , then it cannot be climbed conventionally with a ladder, it may be possible to use a scaffolding tower or a hoist, but in some circumstances you cannot add to the ‘load’ on a pole by adding a new wire , even if that wire was going to be attached with ( for example ) a cherry picker ( hoist ).
You are posting on a BT consumer forum ( residential ) your issue could be answered more accurately on  the BT ‘business’ forum ( as the universal service obligation may not apply to a business line ) but ,  is it BT Business you order is with , as many post on BT forums when they are not even BT customer , confusing Openreach with BT...if your order is with another provider and it’s questions about OR you want answers to, then ( obviously ) you should be asking whatever provider you raised the order with.

Re: Is it possible to get a new line on a condemned pole.

Hi @Esmeralda welcome to the community and thanks for posting, I'm really sorry to see there were issues getting your line connected due to the condition of the pole. You do not need to contact Openreach about this, as they will direct you back to BT.

Openreach will likely need to organise a survey to be done to figure out how to get the line to your home, they'll also arrange the work needed to achieve this and provide updates to BT so that we can then update you.

I'll send you a private message in a moment so you can send over your details we'll be happy to check what's happening with the order.

If your service has been ordered as a business account we won't be able to help as this community is for residential customers but you can reach BT Business on 0800 800 152.

Thanks

Neil
