It would seem BT don’t really want us to have the Line Rental Saver anymore. Having had an email reminder that my Line Rental Saver was due for renewal I followed the link to do so. However after filling in the account details In the renewal section I am asked to sign up for a new 18 month contract for Broadband in order to do so, will not be doing that as am only 8 months into and existing 18 month contract which is cheaper than the one they want me to sign up for now. Tried ringing in to do it but just get into a never ending queue. Thanks BT.

The Value or Loyalty team will be able to help renew it, ring 0800 800 150, it's quieter and therefore quicker to get through between 8-9am or 7-9pm, between that is peak time so usually busier.

You might be right - I believe that at least one other major provider dropped their equivalent some time ago. What surprises me is that customers want it any more; LRS has declined markedly in value since it's introduction and is no longer worth the effort in my view.
Whatever its future and merits, it's still a matter of choice so hardly a con.
I’m not referring to the line rental itself being a con, clearly you either want it or not and it’s a matter of choice. It was the fact that they tried to get me to sign up for a new 18 month BB contract by sneaky means that I find a con.
