Quiet line test with no phone

I'm having loads of noise on my bt infinity at the moment and I'd like to perform a quiet line test, however, I have no phone to do this with and I don't want to buy a terminal I'm never going to use.

Is there an alternative way to perform this check?

I might have an old laptop with a built in old school modem I can use.

you can try wireless phone and you may hear a dull hum which is often normal on wireless but best is corded
