I'm not sure I understand what the problem is here. You can just replace the faceplate and plug the filter in there. The test socket, is as the name suggests, just for testing purposes to isolate internal extension wiring when fault finding.

You can fit one of these, it plugs into the test socket, and screws in position. It works for VDSL and ADSL.

It has a separate socket for the phone and home hub, and an inbuilt filter.

Then I don't think you have a NTE 2000, as you said in your OP, but an ordinary NTE5A faceplate which just has the single phone socket at the front & which needs the dangly filter to connect the router.

 

You can replace it by any NTE filtered faceplate, which will have 1 socket for phone & the other for DSL, & you'll be able to ditch the dangly filter except when you need to get to internal test socket. Search Google for "Buy BT NTE Filtered Faceplate" & take your pick.
